The Garden Connection

A residential landscape design for a compact California property, focused on creating a stronger connection between the upper living spaces and the yard below. A new circulation element provides a natural transition between levels while creating spaces for gathering, a fire pit, a vegetable garden, and a future ADU. Because the site faces west, two design options were developed to explore different ways of incorporating the clients’ desired upper-level balcony while responding to the intense evening sun and improving comfort in the outdoor spaces.
